Chuquisaca
The department of Chuquisaca is located in southern Bolivia, limited north Potosi,
Cochabamba and Santa Cruz, Tarija to the south on the east by Santa Cruz and the
Republic of Paraguay and west by the department of Potosi. It covers an area of 51.524
km2 and a population of 531,522 inhabitants.
Sucre (2750 m), the capital of the department and also the capital of the Republic of
Bolivia, is a city with a climate of mild heat, with famous rain and thunder storms.
Flows through the department of Chuquisaca the Andes Mountains and ridges of low
elevation; Chuquisaca is part of the Amazon and the Plata basins.
It is an area with varied production of grains and legumes, as well as fruits in the valleys
and citrus in its warm zones, with important breeding of pig, goat and sheep cattle.
Tourist Attractions:
Sucre is a beautiful city, known as the White City, it has been declared by UNESCO as
Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by being the living museum of what life was like for the
Spanish colonial aristocracy. In this city you can visit important churches and museums
such as La Casa de la Libertad, where the Declaration of Independence of Bolivia was
signed in 1925.
Near Sucre lies Cal Orck'o, the world's largest paleontological deposit. At simple sight
you can see over 5000 impressions of dinosaur footprints of 290 different animals that
inhabitated the place in Superior Cretaceous.
Sixty km far from the capital, is Tarabuco, famous for its Sunday fairs where community
members come from the region to exchange goods. It becomes a single market full of
color and people. The second Sunday in March takes place the Pujllay or carnival, one of
the most important celebrations of the Indian world.
