Tarija
The department of Tarija is located south of the Republic of Bolivia, bordered on the
north by the department of Chuquisaca, south with the Republic of Argentina, on the
east by the Republic of Paraguay and west Chuquisaca and Potosi. It covers an area of
37,623 km2 and a population of 459,010 inhabitants.
The departmental capital is the city of Tarija (1,866 m), washed by mighty rivers of the
Plata Basin, as the Guadalquivir.
Rich in natural resources like oil and gas, has received in recent years many investors,
domestic and foreign, what is making it to become as a receiving migrant region and an
important pole of development. It has fruits, vineyards, corn, sugar cane. Its forests are
rich in timber, especially in quebracho. Livestock, there is beef cattle and also sheeps,
horses and pigs. The circuit ends with Bermejo and Sanandita oil refineries.
Sightseeing
San Jacinto Dam and its waters provide a beautiful landscape surrounded by the
Cordillera de Sama. The natural environment provides the space for activities such as
kayaking, canoeing, hiking and fishing. Interestingly, this region can enjoy crabs and
small native fish species.
In Tajzara gaps at 3700 m. the landscape changes and the flora and fauna as well. You
can find birds such as ducks and flamingos. Sand dunes show whimsical landscapes and
gorgeous vicuna, guanaco, deer and hawks.
While in the Chorros de Jurina the water falls over 40 meters in incomparable and wild
beauty, sliding on black and white rocks, what give them the names of Black Jet and
White Jet.
Because of the variety of heights and the number of rivers and mountains that have
Tarija, the visitor will find a rich supply of landscapes and places to visit. People, on the
other hand, is friendly and hospitable.
